When preparing your article for submission, please observe these layout rules:

 

1. FORMAT. All articles must be formatted in either WORD, Open Office or Libre Office. We cannot work with PDF. If you have a different idea, let us know.

 

2. LENGTH. VoegelinView feature articles run between 2000 and 10,000 words. Book Reviews, Commentary, and columnists frequently run less than 2000 words and are limited to 2500 words.

 

3. INSTALLMENTS. Articles will be presented in installments if they exceed 3000 words in length.  The author should organize the content accordingly.

 

4. WHITESPACE, WHITESPACE, WHITESPACE. Web designers call the areas around the words "whitespace." It is a fact that people looking at a computer screen are unwilling to strain their eyes reading closely-packed prose. The solution is to break up paragraphs as though the writer were delivering a lecture, pausing frequently to let the thought sink in.  If you don't do this we will have to do it. VoegelinView articles provide examples.

 

5. FONT AND LAYOUT.

Georgia 11 point type.

Line height: 120%.

Alignment: left.

Line width approximately 5 inches (125mm).

Doublespace between paragraphs.

6. NOTES. For some time we have converted all footnotes to endnotes so that they would not interrupt the flow of reading. Please provide endnotes rather than footnotes. Please do not use intra-textual notes.  This means following the Chicago Manual of Style and avoiding MLA style. Submissions with MLA style notes cannot be published.

 

Due to technology changes, it has become quite time-consuming to lay out endnotes. We hope this will change for the better soon. Please limit the number of notes to the extent possible.
