10th Amendment: Tennesse House Joint Resolution #108

"BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we hereby affirm Tennessee's sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States."

On June, 9th, Tennessee Senate also approved (10 votes to none) the HRJ108, that states what is quoted above. What this really means? Actually nothing? Is something really serious, or just a sign that things are not going quite well in the United States?

Is there any other state doing something similar?

I'm completely curious on what the American members of this forum have to say.

Best regards,
Paulo Sanchotene

Re: 10th Amendment: Tennesse House Joint Resolution #108

About ten states have put together something with similar language. There is some buzz about it, but it doesn't amount to anything unless people are willing to go to war and they are not. This is about money. The states receive a great deal of money from the federal government and couldn't survive without it, even in good times. Legally, the 10th Amendment has basically been rendered impotent through the Commerce Clause of the Constitution and the Environmental Protection Agency. These together can trump just about anything that the states want to do.
