An Innkeeper

I gave them the barn, they seemed nice enough
A man and his wife, a kid on the way
I let them bed down on the straw and stuff
And then I gave up on a long hard day.
Shepherds, they said. I heard other breakfast,
To see some baby, they came in the night,
All a bit odd, funny stories spread fast
Of angels in the sky, dancing delight.
Then there were foreign gentleman flocking
Giving gifts like gold to the guest’s new boy
This looked serious, there could be no mocking
How would the future this rare child employ?
They paid their bills and left, it had been fun
Now I wonder what happened to their son?
