Dragon Killers

March snaps like the Dragon with claws that sting.
The red-shouldered hawks, male and female, ring
Sky and air as they call to each other.
The male, a father, and lady, mother
To be, craft their nest in a hardwood V.
Our day’s homework entails glassing their tree,
And when March bites with jaws of wind, rain, and
Ice, the hawks’ fidelity still withstands,
Their home not forsaken or neglected.
Lady hawk bears the next generation,
And while she waits, the powerful bird of
Prey, would we say she is made weak in love?
Though new life does weigh a heavy burden,
Worse is the sting of stony desolation.
Lady hawk bears wings to fly, and to feed
Young downies. She is Beauty. She is Wise.
With Father hawk, Keen and Brave, in Union
They soar with Spirit against the Dragon.
