Glass Stained

High rafters, vaulted ceiling,
Light streaming through the wall,
Beaming inside through angels,
From outside where gargoyles crawl.
Falling on the baptismal font,
A shimmer is thereby created,
Highlighting the divine presence,
As the God of all is celebrated.
Stunning in architecture,
Both in pillar and ground.
The structure itself, a work of art,
Illuminating both lost and found.
Silence kneels in reverence,
Chiseled reminders stand and stare,
Profane transformed to sacred,
And consecrated bread to share.
Inviting mortal contemplation,
With a beauty that subverts
Ugliness just outside the doors,
Arrested powers rendered inert.
Like the Temple mirrored Heaven,
There is something special here.
Where distractions are shut out,
The divine shines through so clear.
