My Eve

I named all the creatures of the earth,
But who would call my name upon it here?
Who would share my garden? Enjoy my mirth
With me? Whose touch would give me comfort near?
The sun sank down; my lonely soul took rest,
Sleeping with dreams of warm tender desire,
God heard my yearning and took from my breast,
A rib to make a woman, me inspire.
Bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh, my star
Shining on me, my own beloved Eve,
Together we shall live, however far
Life takes us, your side I shall never leave.
Spring of my soul, I drink your love so sweet,
All that awaits us we shall as one meet.
