Frederick “Fritz” Wagner: An Appreciation (Paul Caringella)

It is Thanksgiving Day here and now I have a chance to express my affectionate thanks to Fritz Wagner. I am sure he remembers the days more than 30 years ago when we got to know each other well during his visit to Palo Alto. What good times we had: Introducing him to Lissy Voegelin and showing him around Eric’s haunts at Hoover and Stanford, then later repeating the tour with his dear son, delighted to have with a new generation similar intense conversations about faith and reason, and all else in the world that had been opened up for his dad at Notre Dame by his introduction in person there to the “Voegelin View”.

John, from my perspective and years of experience communicating with Fritz, I can only confirm your account of Fritz’s devotion to helping so many others over the years continue “the search for order” by his careful gathering and organizing diverse materials for their intelligent study. Geoffrey Price in the UK shared the same inspiration in bringinging together writings and scholars on the international level. The work has to be deeply personal. Thank you, Fritz  –  Ad multos annos!

Please see tributes from John von Heyking, Glenn Hughes, David Walsh, and Harald Bergbauer.
