Ode to the Archangels

Michael,
His sword is sharp,
His armor thick,
He does not play a flute or harp,
His spear a deadly stick.
Oh, Holy Knight of Christ,
Who from the Heavens struck the Dragon,
Our defender in the well fought fight,
Has conquered the Ancient Foe and won.
Gabriel,
Who helped Daniel to understand,
The visions he did see,
Who heralded the Baptist to prepare the land,
The Messiah’s forerunner to be.
His message of Emmanuel,
Did bring to a Virgin young,
Her heart so full of love did swell,
Her hymn of joy was sung.
Raphael,
Whose counsel did guide,
Tobias on his journey’s way,
To find his bride,
In glorious array.
Who stands before the throne of God,
Who ordered that man rightly praise,
and offer joyous laud,
to Almighty God for all his days.
